There is still a long year ahead, but we have already been able to see several works of fiction that are very worthwhile. Today it’s time to make a stop at the best Netflix series released in 2022 so far, and at the end of the article you will also find a review of some of the most outstanding releases that are about to hit the platform this year.
Best series released in 2022 on Netflix
The selection has been made by me, Mikel Zorrilla, editor of since 2011 based on my personal criteria . Last year I took care of reviewing Netflix’s most notable television fictions and this year it’s time to do the same. As usual in this type of text, I will update it from time to time until the end of the year.
Before getting into the subject, I remind you that we also have a list with the best Netflix movies of 2022, another with the best Amazon movies of the year, the one with the best Amazon series so far in these months, the one with the best Disney+ series of this 2022 and the best HBO Max series of the same period. Without more to add, let’s go with the chosen ones from Netflix:
Created by: Ricky Gervais. Reparto: Ricky Gervais, Jo Hartley, Tony Way, Ashley Jensen, Tom Basden, David Bradley, Roisin Conaty, Mandeep Dhillon, Kerry Godliman, Paul Kaye, Diane Morgan, Joe Wilkinson, Penelope Wilton
Ricky Gervais very fortunately closed this series on how a man deals with the loss of his wife. The third and last season maintained the line of the previous two, with more hits than misses, but it was in his final episode that he raised the bar to close Tony’s story impeccably . And it is that all that final stretch at the fair is the best of all ‘After Life’.
Created by: Rebecca Sonnenshine. Reparto: Dina Shihabi, Mamoudou Athie, Ariana Neal, Evan Jonigkeit, Martin Donovan, Matt McGorry, Julia Taylor Ross, Daniel Johnson, Kate Eastman, Charlie Hudson III, Kristin Griffith, Eden Marryshow, Trayce Malachi
James Wan has given us many joys as a director but not so many as a producer, the one we are dealing with now being an exception, since we are facing an absorbing series that manages to transfer the obsession of its protagonists to the viewer. It is also true that he does it by raising many mysteries without then taking good care of everyone, but there is a singularity in her that makes her very attractive.
‘All of us are dead’
Created by : Chun Sung-il, Lee Jae-kyoo, Kim Nam-su. Reparto : Lee Yoo-mi, Rich Ting, Yi-Hyun Cho, Park Solomon, Chan-Young Yoon, Park Ji-hu, In-soo Yoo, Byeong-cheol Kim, Jeong Esuz, Ahn Seung-Kyoon, Lee Eun-Saem , Jeon Bae-su, Lee Kyoo-hyung
Korean series began to hit Netflix last year and the platform has found a new hit with this zombie fiction centered on an epidemic that attacks a high school with special virulence. Wild when it’s time to show the attacks, you can also see here those cultural particularities of the works of this country with which not all viewers may agree.
Created by: Alice Oseman. Reparto: Joe Locke, Kit Connor, William Gao, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Tobie Donovan, Sebastian Croft, Yasmin Finney, Cormac Hyde-Corrin, Rhea Norwood, Fisayo Akinade, Chetna Pandya, Stephen Fry
A fun and touching adaptation of the homonymous comic that leaves aside all kinds of cynicism and the most worn-out dramatic places of homosexual romances to offer a close story that leads you to become attached to its protagonists and wish that everything goes as well as possible for them.
Created by: Chris Van Dusen. Reparto: Phoebe Dynevor, Simone Ashley, Golda Rosheuvel, Jonathan Bailey, Luke Newton, Luke Thompson, Claudia Jessie, Nicola Coughlan, Ruby Barker, Sabrina Bartlett, Ruth Gemmell, Adjoa Andoh, Polly Walker
The adaptation of Julia Quinn ‘s novels is a most addictive romantic series for anyone who doesn’t feel an extreme allergy to this type of story. Influencing much more unresolved sexual tension than its predecessor and solving some of its dramatic excesses, the series continues to grow and leaves you wanting the already confirmed third season.
‘The Inheritors of the Earth’
Directed by : Jordi Frades. Cast : Yon Gonzalez, Elena Rivera, Rodolfo Sancho, David Solans, Michelle Jenner, Pere Arquillue, Maria Rodriguez Soto, Bruna Cusi, Anna Moliner, Marta Belaustegui, Nancho Novo, Aria Bedmar, Pedro Casablanc
This late sequel to ‘The Cathedral of the Sea’ was quite a surprise despite how fast it can be at times. It retains the virtues of its predecessor, which transported you to another era knowing how to keep the viewer entertained and offering engaging characters. All this without renouncing the customs of the time, both for the way of living and the need to take revenge for the insults suffered.
Created by : Bill Dubuque. Cast : Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Julia Garner, Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, Peter Mullan, Janet McTeer, Jason Butler Harner, Anthony Collins, Esai Morales, Harris Yulin, Felix Solis, Carson Holmes
In 2022 it will be time to say goodbye to this series led by Jason Bateman and Laura Linney . For now we have already been able to see the first part of its final season, in which it seems that more attention has been paid to situating its characters for an outcome that promises to be explosive than anything else. However, it is still worth it, and a lot, worth it.
‘Who is Anna?’ (‘Inventing Anna’)
Created by: Shonda Rhimes. Reparto: Julia Garner, Anna Chlumsky, Jennifer Esposito, Laverne Cox, Alexis Generette Floyd, Anders Holm, Terry Kinney, Katie Lowes, Arian Moayed, Jeff Perry, Anna Deavere Smith, Caitlin Fitzgerald, Chris Cafero
The first television series created by Shonda Rhimes in a decade maintains the characteristic freshness of her previous works and features excellent work by Julia Garner and Anna Chlumsky in the lead roles. Here you will find a good mix of drama, suspense and sauce , with the only drawback that its episodes may last a little longer.
Created by: Greg Daniels y Steve Carell. Reparto: Steve Carell, Joseph Alfieri, Bryan Cave, Lisa Kudrow, Owen Daniels, Noah Emmerich, John Malkovich, Tawny Newsome, Ben Schwartz, Diana Silvers, Aleksey Vorobev, Jessica St. Clair, Fred Willard
Unfortunately, the second season of ‘Space Force’ ended up being the last, and that in it they offered a kinder approach, especially in relation to the portrayal of the characters, to try to connect with those who ended up disappointed with the first. It was too late for that, but at least her followers were able to continue enjoying her a little more.
‘Stranger Things 4’
Created by: Hermanos Duffer. Reparto: Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Sadie Sink, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Dacre Montgomery, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer, Joe Keery, Cara Buono
We had to wait a long time to see the fourth season, but boy was it worth it. With a huge investment that is perceived on screen at all times, a more terrifying approach and a top-notch villain, ‘Stranger Things’ returned in style with its best installment since the first.
‘Vikingos: Valhalla’ (‘Vikings: Valhalla’)
Created by : Jeb Stuart. Reparto : Sam Corlett, Laura Berlin, Bradley Freegard, Frida Gustavsson, Caroline Henderson, Johannes Haukur Johannesson, Pollyanna McIntosh, Asbjorn Krogh Nissen, David Oakes, Julian Seager, Leo Suter, Paaru Oja, James Ballanger
A vigorous sequel to ‘Vikings‘ that elevates its most visceral side to offer a show with an enviable rhythm. All this taking care that the story it tells has enough hook to achieve a necessary balance between form and substance that its predecessor did not always achieve.
